Rían Garn

Lochsa Area Manager & River Guide

Rían’s love for the outdoors started early, carrying a pack bigger than she was down the South Kaibab Trail in Grand Canyon National Park at age 10, and even turning around to help her dad finish the hike. That same mix of grit and care still shapes how she shows up on the river.

She began guiding in 2018 on the Rogue after years of personal river trips, including the Gila at 14 and the Grand Canyon at 18. Now guiding across Oregon and Idaho, Rían is also a swiftwater rescue instructor who’s passionate about teaching safety and sharing knowledge on fire ecology, hydrology, and human history.

As ROW’s Lochsa Area Manager, a position she loves, Rían thrives in the power of the Lochsa River. Especially when it’s roaring. Off the river, she’s longboarding the Rogue Greenway or cooking up something bold with her wife, Zhari.

“It’s impossible to explain in words the insane adrenaline rush I got for 20 straight miles sending the gnar of the mighty Lochsa River! Our guide Rion absolutely killed it! Instilled the confidence needed to absolutely slay this beast! I couldn’t have asked for a better guide for my first time on the Lochsa! Cheers to the entire staff at Row for the incredible experience! I’ll be coming back!!”
